I reccomend staying in Santa Caterina di Pittinuri or Mandriola they are two small villages that are close to beach with the best waves that break in Sardinia. The two small villages are close to the main city Oristano.
If you want some contact for rent apartments you can send me an e-mail to diego.gogna@gmail.com, I have some friends there that have affordable houses for rent.

SARDINIA
Sardinia is the second largest island of Italy (after Sicily). There are around 290 days per year of wave. It's cool, because when I speak with some people about surfing in Italy, especially foreign surfers, they look surprised. Instead here there are perfect breaks to catch, powerfull and long italian waves.

I fell in love with this island many years ago, when I went for the first time, I was 12 years old.

There is something magical about this atmosphere, all around there is nature, water it's really clean, you can go swimming and look down at the bottom for 20 meters, it's incredible! There isn't traffic, stress or anything else that you can find in a city, if you travel around a bit you can pass through small streets of the villages and it seems that you are going back 20 years.

Life here slow going, food it's really healthy, if you decide to eat in a small restaurant, you can taste different types of typical food.
Don't forget to taste porceddu (pork), spaghetti with vongole and bottarga, seadas and formaggelle for dessert.

Local people are distant when they don't know who you are, but if you try to open up to them they give you everything they can do. I have some really good friends there and they are great, honest, generous guys and good surfers.

I like to show this island to my friends that never visited before, during the last few years, people that are special to me, have traveled there with me. I'll want say to everybody that I spent unforgettable time with everyone of you...?

Mini Capo

When I went to Sardinia I preferred go to the west coast for surfing, where you can find many different spots. From Olbia to Oristano you must drive for two hours on the high way (it's free).
From Oristano you can decide where to surf,  depends on  the wind, normally the best wind in Sardinia is from north/west (mistral).

Best wave season: all year

SCIVOLO, MINI CAPO, CAPO MANNU

When you arrive in the village Putzu Idu,  drive past all the houses, at the end of the road on the left will be Leopori Bar, turn left and continue straight.

You can see the first spot 'Scivolo' where there is a restaurant with the same name. The second spot go ahead on the left side, you can see a green house, there is Mini Capo.

The last one and the most famous spot is Capo Mannu, after the second one go along the coast for 300 meters and you arrive in paradise.

S'ARCHITTU'
Drive from Putzu Idu to the north. The landscape is amazing; there is a beautiful natural rock arc at this spot. In the high season it illuminates all night! You can surf here when the other spots are really big.

FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura is the dryest island of Canary Islands, the climate is quite warm all around the year and there are world class waves along the north coast. I went there twice, first time, four years ago when I partecipated to a surf camp of Quiksilver for one week and last one week at the end of November 2011.
This land in the north is completely desertic, with inactive vulcano's, dunes and beautiful long beaches!
There are small villages of fishermen, where the time seemed to stop. People were walking slow, speaking together on the corner of the street, on the beach near by there are boats, they sit outside of there houses and made me feel peaceful on the inside, it was like they don't need anything else than what they have.
I met many young italians that they decided to move permanently to this island, they told me that there are more benefits if you living there than in Italy:
- no stress
- cheap life
- easy to find casual job
- surfing every day
- not far from Italy
- low cost flights
- temperature is warm all year
My personal experiences can confirm that. I saw amazing sunsets every day. It was like a show of beautiful colors exploding in nature.

SURFTRIP & SURFSPOT

The best way if you want find empty spots for surfing is rent to a 4x4 car. If you decide to rent a cheaper car you can find other spots possibly with more surfers.
I never had problems in the water with locals; they were respectful. When I travel abroad for surf trips, I'm surfing new spots where there are local surfers, I feel like it is not my territory therefore I remain considerate of the locals.
 I have one rule:
"When you arrive near the peak it's better if you wait a few minutes, to become cautious of the other people in the water. When your time has arrives, take a total commitment, paddle strong and surf your first new wave with all your heart and your body"
In a surf trip this is the right spirit of a good free surfer.
